Randoseru

When I went to the department store the other day, I saw the "Randoseru" on sale.It is the school bag made by leather for elementary school students. In Japan the schools and offices start April. So the parents have to prepare for that.
I think the new randoseru on kid's back is like a symbol of new pupil .
According to the WEB site, it was originally came from Netherland about 200years ago. When I was a kid it supporsed to have black ones for boys , and red ones for girls. But now there are many kinds of colors.

many colors

Oh my goodness, a leather school bag... I think it will be really expensive. It looks more like a fashion accessory to me.

Anyway, I watched on the news here that Japan is promoting eco-tourism, where tourists can stay with the host families and they can learn about the vegetables and the land.... I think it is not too expensive and is really cool. But I do not know where to find more information, can you help me?

Seems like compulsory to use this standard leather bag, is it?

Actually it is NOT compulsory, but most of parents buy it. When I was a kid, I never saw someone who doesn't have.

I'm in Australia, and ive been trying to get my hands on a REASONABLY priced Randoseru but . . it seems impossiable,My brother is in japan but he says you have to have a child enrolled in a school to purchase one,and they are still quite expensive from a school outlet . . . looks like im going to be sending a wad of cash soon enough . . .

Thak you for your comments
I think it is no need have a child to buy randoseru. The problem is too expensive , at least about 15000yen , maybe.

Hello, I am from the U.S. and have just purchased one from ebay (two to be exact, brand new.) It was much more inexpensive to go through e-bay. They are so cool. When I have children I will be passing them down to them. But in the meantime, nice fasion statement!

They're really nice bags..
It would be nice if they were bigger, so even adults could use them XD
I myself would love one!

Kazumi,

I love the randoseru bags! I'd love to get one for my kid when she starts elementary school next year. Do you know where I can get the highest quality of randoseru bags and get it shipped to singapore? I understand that there is a leather like material that weighs less, but of very high quality. It weighs something like 800g and costs About 60,000yen or more.
